What is an airfoil?

An airfoil is a streamlined body designed to


reduce the adverse pressure gradient so that
separation will not occur, usually with a small
angle of attack.

Lift on an airfoil
The component of this force perpendicular to the
direction of motion is called lift.
Drag on an airfoil
The component parallel to the direction of motion
is called drag.
