Trial Balance

Trail Balance is a statement containing the balances of all ledger


accounts as at any given date, arranged in form of debit and credit
columns placed side by side prepared with the object of checking
the arithmetical accuracy of ledger postings

It is statement debit and credit totals of various accounts are


separately totaled to see whether they are equal or not, this
statement is called as trail balance

The trial balance can be prepared in two ways
1. By taking the balances of each of the ledger accounts.
2. By taking the debit and the credit total of each of the ledger accounts.
