enclosed in small copper or aluminium tube of 6-7mm diameter.due To chemical reaction intiated either by the flame or electric current Detonators are basically two types 1.Plain detonators 2.Electric detonators History of detonators
* Black powder first used in mining in
the year 1627. * Hazardous ignition overcome in 1831 with invention of Miners Safety Fuse by William Bickford * Discovery of Nitroglycerine in 1846 by Ascanio Sobrero * Safe manufacture in 1860s for industrial use
* Hazardous ignition overcome in 1863
with development of practical detonator by Alfred Nobel * Nobel experimented with design and developed a mercury blasting cap in 1865
* * All detonator advancements based on original mercury blasting cap ]
Plain detonator:-It depends on the
amount of base charge. Manufactured in two strengths VIZ no.6 and no.8 detonators, containing 0.22gm of PETN and 0.45gm of PETN respectively and length of 35mm and 48mm both contain 0.2gm of ASA. Electric Detonator:- * electric detonators are fired electrically. *electric shot firing is required in gassy coal mines where naked fires are not permitted . *Electric detonators are made in no.6 and no.8 strengths. * They comprise of copper or aluminium tube usually of 7mm in diameter and little longer than plain detonator .
