    Ernest Rutherford was a New Zealand-British chemist and physicist known as the father of nuclear physics. He discovered in 1919 that atoms have a nucleus with electrons orbiting around it. In 1917, he made his first observation of a nuclear reaction. He also discovered the concept of half-life through his study of the decay of radioactive materials.
