relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics. Einstein's work is also known for its
influence on the philosophy of science.

electromagnetism and electrochemistry. His main discoveries include the principles
underlying electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism and electrolysis.

Max Karl Ernst Ludwig Planck, FRS was a German theoretical physicist whose discovery of
energy quanta won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918.
ARISTOTLE
His writings cover many subjects including physics, biology, zoology, metaphysics, logic,
ethics, aesthetics, poetry, theater, music, rhetoric, linguistics, politics and government and
constitute the first comprehensive system of Western philosophy.
LOUIS PASTEUR
Louis Pasteur was a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist renowned for his
discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization.
ERNEST RUTHERFORD
Ernest Rutherford, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson, OM, FRS was a New Zealand-born
British physicist who came to be known as the father of nuclear physics.
DMITRI IVANOVICH MENDELEEV
He formulated the Periodic Law, created a farsighted version of the periodic table of
elements, and used it to correct the properties of some already discovered elements and also
to predict the properties of eight elements yet to be discovered.
ALESSANDRO GIUSEPPE ANTONIO ANASTASIO VOLTA
Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta was an Italian physicist, chemist, and a
pioneer of electricity and power, who is credited as the inventor of the electrical battery and
the discoverer of methane.
ANTOINE-LAURENT DE LAVOISIER
Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier was a French nobleman and chemist central to the 18th-
century chemical revolution and had a large influence on both the history of chemistry and
the history of biology.
NIELS HENRIK DAVID BOHR
Niels Henrik David Bohr was a Danish physicist who made foundational contributions to
understanding atomic structure and quantum theory, for which he received the Nobel Prize in
Physics in 1922.

GREGOR JOHANN MENDEL
Gregor Mendel, who is known as the "father of modern genetics", was inspired by both his
professors at the Palack University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler),
and his colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants.
JAMES CLERK MAXWELL
James Clerk Maxwell was a Scottish scientist in the field of mathematical physics. His most notable achievement was
to formulate the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation, bringing together for the first time electricity,
magnetism, and light as manifestations of the same phenomenon. Maxwell's equations for electromagnetism have been
called the "second great unification in physics after the first one realised by Isaac Newton.
JOHANNES KEPLER
He was German mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer. A key figure in the 17th-century scientific
revolution, he is best known for his laws of planetary motion, based on his works Astronomia nova,

Marie Skodowska Curie, born Maria Salomea Skodowska, was a Polish and naturalized-
French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity.
ROBERT BOYLE
He is best known for Boyle's law, which describes the inversely proportional relationship
between the absolute pressure and volume of a gas, if the temperature is kept constant within
a closed system.
