Why Split Backs??
Can utilize smaller, quicker players
Can get 2 TB-type players on the field
Dive hits faster than the FB in I or Flexbone

OUTSIDE VEER!
Basic Considerations
Must devote practice time to Option
Must be able to audible out of a bad play
Must call veer plays when the Dive is available
Must have complimentary plays
Are you an option team or a team that runs
option????????
Veer Offensive Line Play Basics
OPTION FOOTBALL = MOVEMENT!!
Double-team/Combo at the point of attack
Proper hat placement, then come off the ball
and BE AGGRESSIVE!!
SEAL Build a wall and get downfield on
the backside
Why Outside Veer?
A quick-hitting off-tackle play
A good companion to perimeter plays
Forces a 9 technique to play assignment football
Puts 4-3 teams in a bind at the 9 technique area
A great short yardage / goal line play

Playside Guard 2, 3, LB. Listen for 4-call.
NEVER block a 1 technique
Center Lead 0. (Playside A gap).
Backside Guard Seal backside A gap.
Backside Tackle Seal backside B gap.
Outside Veer Backfield Mechanics
Depth Hand at 3 yards from the ball
Alignment Split inside leg of the Guard
both backs should be even
Aiming Point Inside leg of Tackle
QB Read 1st man head up to outside TE
Mesh Mechanics (demonstrate)
Hug the double-team
