Runway safety area dimensions are based on the size and landing speed of the
aircraft using the runway. Typically, for runways used by airlines, the runway
safety area extends 250 ft from runway centerline and 1000 ft off each end.

The runway safety area enhances the safety of airplanes which undershoot,
overrun, or veer off the runway, and it provides greater accessibility for
