Fire Extinguisher & Fire Watcher

Fire extinguishers are a necessary


precaution in the plant, since a fire can
start for a number of reasons.
Employees should know how to use fire
extinguishers to mitigate the spread of
fire in the plant.

Using a fire extinguisher:


Use the P.A.S.S method.
• Pull: Pull the safety pin
• Aim: Aim the fire extinguisher nozzle to the base of the flame
• Squeeze: Squeeze the valve handle
• Sweep: Sweep the stream at the base of the fire.

Fire Watcher Duties


A fire watcher is a worker assigned as the first line of defense and
protects workers as well as property during hot work.
• Be careful and alert of the hazards in the workplace and of hot work.
• Be sure the safety measures are applied as indicated in the Hot Work
permit.
• Be aware of the locations of fire extinguisher at jobsite.
• Ensure clear access to fire extinguishers at all times
• Isolate fire hazards before starting work.
• Stop hot work if unsafe conditions develop.
• Be familiar with fire alarm procedures in the event of an uncontrolled
fire.
• Watch for fires in all exposed areas and for at least 60 minutes after
completion.
• Only attempt to extinguish the fire if it is safe to do so, using
equipment you are trained to use.
