OBJECTIVES
• To describe socio-demography of study area
• To identify common vectors and pests
• To study the relationship between ethnicity and
prevalence of diabetes in the community
• To identify the relationship between level of income
and health seeking behaviour in the community
INTRODUCTION

• Seremban is the capital of Negeri Sembilan.


• It is situated about 60km south from Kuala
Lumpur.
• It has a total population of 372,917 people.

METHODOLOGY
• Study design : Community based cross-sectional study
• Study period : 2nd-3rd July 2015
• Study area : Population in Taman Permai, Taman
Permai III, Taman Ban Aik, Kampung Baru
Rasah
• Sampling technique : Convenience sampling
• Sample size : 245
• Study instrument : Questionnaires
• Statistical analysis : SPSS version 22
• Inclusion criteria : Malaysian residents over 18 years old and
residing in Taman Permai, Taman
Permai III, Taman Ban Aik, and
Kampung Baru Rasah

• Exclusion criteria : People below 18 years old


: Non-Malaysians

DISCUSSION
OCCUPATION/INCOME
• 57.2% of the respondents were employed, while 20.6% were retirees
and 17.3% of them were housewives.

• 42.1% of the respondents earned between RM 1,001 and RM 3,000


monthly.

• 19.1% of the respondents earned between RM 3,001 and RM5, 000 per
month.

• 20.6 % of the respondents are retired and receive pension.


PESTS AND FOGGING
• 59.2% of the households are infested with pests.

• Mosquitos are the main pests (31.8%) found.

• Fogging was not done in 44% of the households.

• In 38% of the households, fogging was only done when there is


dengue case.

CONCLUSIONS
• 42.1% of the respondents earned between RM 1,001 and RM 3,000 monthly.

• Mosquitos are the main pests (31.8%) in the households.

• Majority of respondents in the RM1001-3000 income group will seek public health
care.
LIMITATIONS OF STUDY
• Limited sample of respondents from different ethnicities
• Limited sample sizes over a wide area of study due to lack of
response from the residents
• Timing of visits during working hours
• Questionnaires have to be prepared in a short form due to
nature of study causing insufficient data
