Factors Affecting the

Success of Construction
in Ethiopia
Background
 Construction is an integral part of a country’s infrastructure and must be
taken carefully for the healthy growth of the economy

 Project delay is common internationally in construction industry.

 This study will examine the identified success factors and determine which
factors are more crucial in successful completion of a construction project in
Ethiopia

 The objective of this study is

 To identify the critical success factors for construction projects in


Ethiopia

 To evaluate the identified critical success factors in order of their


importance

 To evaluate the effect of identified critical success factors on the


successful delivery of projects in Ethiopia.
Significance of the Study
 The outcome of the study is to understand the success factors in construction
and improve the effectiveness of the construction projects
Scope and Limitation
 Because of time and resource constraint data is going to be collected from
Addis Ababa region
Literature Review
 Lot of studies had been conducted by different researchers to determine
critical success factors in construction and a number of variables influencing
construction project success have been proposed.

 Previous literatures grouped critical success factors for construction under the
following five main categories,

 Human related factors

 project related factors,

 project procedure related factors,

 project management actions related factors and

 external environment related factors

 There is no evidence of such similar study has been carried out in Ethiopia.
Methodology
 This research will use a quantitative approach in particular a descriptive
survey research design to collect data

 The target population for the study will be construction professionals in Addis
Ababa and a random sampling technique is used

 The data is analyzed by using SPSS


Ethical Consideration
 The research will take ethical consideration to the best of its capacity with
respect to issues like plagiarism, participants’ data confidentiality, etc.
Work Schedule and Budget
 The research will take approximately two months and is estimated to cost Birr
2,834.00
