on board the S.S. Melbourne

Camus, a compatriot living in Singapore, written
by Juan Luna.

situation.

Christmas.

clientele.

Pathology and a medical book entitled Traite

 Don Antonio Vergel de Dios – offered services for
purchase of medical books and instruments.
 Conceived the establishment of a Filipino colony
in Borneo, “ New Calamba”.
 British authorities were willing to give 100,000
acres of land to Filipino colonists.
 Hidalgo, Rizal’s brother-in-law, objected to this
project.
 Gov. Valeriano Weyler was relieved of his
gubernatorial office and was replaced by Eulogio
Despujol.
 Despujol did not approve of Rizal’s plan of
Borneo Colonization, alleging that “the
Philippines lacked laborers” and “ it was not very
patriotic to go off and cultivate a foregin soil.”
