NASW Code of Ethics-Standards
1.01 Commitment to Clients: Social
workers’ primary responsibility is to
promote the well-being of clients.
 Signed Client Confidentiality Agreement Paperwork.
 Met clients, communicated professionally and showed an interest in
their likes, wants and needs.
 Dressed professionally in business casual clothing as directed from
intern supervisor. Do not wear jewelry or heels due to possible
interactions with a client.
1.02 Self-Determination: Social workers
respect and promote the right of
clients to self-determination and assist
clients in their efforts to identify and
clarify their goals.
 Show people skills and critical thinking when interacting with clients
and witnessing their reactions.
 Express proper communications when meeting a new person or
answering the phone.
 Provide solutions for time management and organizational situations.
1.04 Competence: Social workers
should provide services and represent
themselves as competent.
 Attended meeting to help coordinate annual celebration of employee
dedication.
 Attended meeting with Doctor of client and expressed knowledge of
topics discussed.
 Attended weekly meeting with key leadership employees.
1.05 Cultural Awareness and Social
Diversity
 Met with clients and maintained awareness of cultural and social
diversities when interacting with clients and their care takers.
1.06 Conflicts of Interest
 Maintained awareness and did not experience any conflict of interest
situations.
1.07 Privacy Confidentiality: Social
workers should respect clients’ right to
privacy.
 Signed Client Confidentiality Agreement Paperwork.
 Paperwork related to clients is kept on secure double encrypted
computer.
 Clients receive copies of all paperwork pertaining to them.
 Unused paperwork with client information is shredded.
