Brief History and Use
● A concert hall dedicated and built using $50 mil donation by Lilian Disney
in honor for her late husband, Walt, in 1987
● Frank Gehry was chosen among competitors
● In 1994 the building was shut down but revived by a press and fund-
raising campaign two years later
● Home for LA based orchestra, LA Philharmonic (LA Phil, LAP)
● Disruption in acoustics might emerge from a new subway function,
scheduled to run 125 ft beneath the site
Konsep awal dari bangunan karya
Frank Gehry ini merupakan
metamorfosis dari bunga mawar,
CONCEPT yang merupakan bunga yang
kerap tumbuh di lingkungan
sekitar Los Angeles.
The concept of the Walt Disney Concert Hall building is to
capture the motion of los angeles and representing musical
movement. With an eccentric shape and stainless steel for the
facade as gehry’s signature, the building embodies the shape
of a flower and acts as a landmark unlike any other.

This design can achieved full sound
coverage from an unamplified orchestra,
but cannot control the sound volume.
This where the vineyard seating design
is useful, the terraced seating surround
the orchestra allowing for more flat
surfaces and this would increase the
reflected area. 52m

Above all the elements in this concert hall, we know that
for acoustic, reverberation and echo are important factor
that defines sound quality. Recommended RT for this
hall depends on the use of the hall, for this use is
around 2.0 +- 0.2 for organ >2.5

CONCLUSION
As an unamplified auditorium, Walt
Disney Concert Hall relies on its acoustic
quality purely based on the materials it
used and its seating arrangements.
