Affirmative form

1. The Past Simple in Regular Verbs is formed by


adding “ed” or “d” to the infinitive.

• Ex: open opened


• like liked
• watch watched
2. When the verb ends in consonant + vowel + consonant
Ex: stop

The last consonant doubles before adding ED


stopped

3. When the verb ends with a consonant + “y”


Ex: study

the “y” changes to an “i”, before adding ED


studied
4. When the verb ends with a vowel + “ y”
Ex: stay
