The various type of rollers which are used for compaction. Smooth wheeled rollers Pneumatic tyred roller Sheepfoot roller There are two types of smooth wheeled rollers, one three wheeled or macadam rollers, and other tandem rollers. The gross weight of the former type range between 4 to 18 tonnes. The compacting efficiency of the smooth wheeled rollers depends on the weight, width and diameter of each roller. The smooth wheeled rollers are suitable for granular soil and pavement material for the various layer. These rollers are pulled by tractors. The pneumatic tyred roller are considered to be most suitable to compact nonplastic silts and fine sand. This type of rollers consists of hollow steel cylinder with projecting feet. The weight of roller can be increased by filling the drum with the wet soil. The efficiency of the sheepfoot rollers depend on the weight of the roller and the number of feet in contact with the ground at a time. A paver (paver finisher, asphalt finisher, paving machine) is a piece of construction equipment used to lay asphalt on roads, bridges, parking lots and other such places.
It lays the asphalt flat and provides minor compaction before it
