Introduction
An uninterruptable power supply is also known as a
battery back-up which provide emergency power when
the power fails or drop to an unacceptable voltage level.
The switchover time is very small (2 to 4 m s) enough to
not cause break or disruption of the load.
THREE TYPES OF UPS
1.offline UPS
2.Line interactive UPS
3.Online UPS
The ON – line , OFF - line UPS can be explain
with the help of this block diagram

In this design, the battery
to AC power converter
(inverter) is always connected
to the o/p of the ups.
Battery charging is done during
Time when I/P AC power is
normal when the I/P AC fails
transfer switch open & then
inverter start function to
provide power to load immediately.

Advantages
Protects machines/equipment
Reduce noise as compare to backup gen
Power continuity
Power consistency
Disadvantages
Cost is very high
Need high quality batteries
Maintenance cost is high
Commercial use requiring a no of batteries
Applications
1.For Computer
2.For Tv & LCD
3.For Industries
4.For Hospital
5.For Bank
6.For high sensitivity electronic divices
7.For railways
8.For Telephone exange
conclusion
Ups provide billions dollars benefit every year.
As storage technology improve & as electricity storage
become more common for other benefit & uses many
more prospective user may want reliability safety that
ups can provide.
