 Kent state university was established in 1910


 Currently has 38,000 enrolled students
 Eight Campuses
 Offers over 300 majors and degrees
 70% of faculty have highest degree in field
Curriculum: approvals and revisions
 Educational Policies Council (EPC)
 EPC is co-chaired by the executive vice president (VP) for
academic affairs and the chair of the faculty senate.
 EPC has two councils: undergraduate and graduate EPC.
 Members with voting privileges (undergraduate) include:
• Executive VP for academic affairs (co-chair)
• Faculty senate chair (co-chair)
• Dean from each academic college
 Regular faculty may be appointed to the EPC
 One member of each college curriculum body is elected
 One student observes (no vote)
 The EPC meeting schedule and agendas are made available

 99.6% of graduates are employed within 6 months
 More 40% of NE Ohio nurses are Kent state graduates

Mission
 The mission of Kent State University College of Nursing is to discover,
create, apply and share nursing knowledge, as well as to foster ethical
and humanitarian values in addressing health care needs of Ohio and the
global community. The College of Nursing applies professional nursing
standards and competencies across a variety of undergraduate and
graduate programs to prepare students to reach their full potential.
Students engage in diverse learning environments to foster critical thinking
and attain excellence in providing care for diverse populations and
advancing knowledge.

Program Objectives - BSN


 Meet educational eligibility requirements to take the registered
nurse licensing examination (National Certification and Licensure
Exam).
 Acquire competencies based on professional standards to assume
the role of the professional nurse and for career advancement,
including graduate studies.
 Apply the nursing process in providing evidence-based, culturally
sensitive care to promote health and adaptation of individuals,
families, groups and communities.

Framework
 The framework reflects the mission and mission concepts are seen in all nursing tracks :
 Begins with courses on core foundations of nursing then moving onto research, professional
practice, and then leadership (relate back to mission/goals/objective)
 Culturally diverse issues and evidence-based practice are addressed (in courses)
Purpose / Goals
 The listed objectives directly relate to the mission :
 They focus on the promotion of health, culture sensitivity, the community, competencies, and
educational requirements
 Objectives are learner centered, feasible, state expectations and have a time frame
 The nursing mission is broad enough to encompass the parent institutions vision and also
encompass all nursing program tracks
 Measurable outcomes include: licensure, certifications, professional distinctions, career
achievements, community involvement, and outreach.
