Background 1
• Since our establishment in 2013, Busitema University Faculty of
Health Sciences - a major role in the economic and social
transformation.
• The University aims to produce distinguished health
professionals - to serve in rural areas where more client live
• Over 80% of our population live in the rural but paradoxically
over 80% of health workers live in the urban
• The University strives to prepare professionals who will work in
both urban and rural settings.

Background 2
• The Faculty of health sciences also strives to deliberately in - build
within the training;-
• To contribute evidence based information (Research) to MoH, local
governments and Government to influence policies and help policy
makers reach guided decisions.
• The first community placement focused on community entry skills
• Second year placement focused mostly on identification of
community problems and making plans for the design of sustainable
interventions.
• The third and final year of community placement will focus on
understanding the health system, delivery of primary healthcare, and
implementation, and monitoring of carefully designed health
interventions.

Objectives of the course 1
• To explain the elements and principles of Primary Health Care

• To explain the factors that affect nutrition status of individuals


and communities.

• To discuss the National Health policy, organization and structure


of the Health Care delivery systems

• Describe the process and utilization of health management


information system.

• Write a project proposal to address a specific health problem.

• Implement the project

• Write a scientific report generated from the project

• Primary Health Care:
◦ History, Principles, Elements, Minimum Health Package, Priorities of
health Problems in Uganda, Determinants of health
• Nutrition:
◦ food availability and security, Food hygiene, factors which affect
nutrition status
• Health Management:
◦ National Health Policy and Health Sector Strategic Plan, Health Care
delivery systems, Planning and Budgeting, procurement, Human
Resource management.
• Structured organization and resources of a community

Expectations
• Students to go to their sites on time.
• Fully participate in the activities as prescribed.
• Attend all tutorials, teachings and outreaches as per the
manual.
• Be disciplined and show respect to all (Nurses, M/W, NA, Dr..)
• Fill out the student manual, questionnaires and any other
documents that require filling and signing while on the
placement site.
• There will be no other opportunity to do this placement so you
are advised to do it in its proper timing.

Deliverables
• Filled out manuals and properly signed.

• Filled out questionnaires

• Any other documents that are expected from the students for
assessments.

• Avoid forgery, do the work for it is for your own benefit.

• ‘Practice makes perfect’

Assessment
• Continuous assessment.

Conclusion
• The University will continue to contribute to the student
transport and up keep (welfare) while at the placement site

• Tutors will visit the students at their sites from time to time.
– Discuss with the site supervisor on the progress of the course

– Discuss with the site students on the progress of the course

– Look the log books and assess the progress

– Advise on any challenges that they may be facing
