Defining Resilience
Resilience is defined as the ability of an individual
to bounce back from a traumatic experience and
is related to the capacity to recover from a
setback, any difficult situation or toughness.
Organizational resilience can be defined as a
function of an organization’s overall situation
awareness, management of keystone
vulnerabilities, and adaptive capacity in a
complex, dynamic, and interconnected
environment (McManus, Seville, Vargo, &
Brunsdon, 2008, p. 82)
Problem Statement
Resilientseems to be one of the best
predictors of an employee’s capacity to
be an effective contributor and to add
value to an organization
Past research claiming to study
employee resilience suffers from a lack
of conceptual clarity about both the
resilience construct and the
methodological designs
Research Objectives
What is resilience of an employee working in an
organization?
How do various factors such as optimism, adaptability,
stress management etc. impact resilience in an
organization?
Empirically investigate previously untested assumptions of
how resilience at individual (trait resilience) level and
organizational level interact.
Investigate any potential benefits to work-related attitudes
that may arise through supporting wellbeing at work.
How organizational politics impacts the resilience of
employees.
