Commissionning Procedure

♦ System configuration
The training deals with the commissionning procedure for LSY LHR R2 in configuration
N+1 STM1 Electrical Interface without XPIC, and Space Diversity

♦ Commissionning tests purpose

To check that equipment performance is in accordance with the technical specifications and
tolerances supplied by ALCATEL

♦ Test classification
• Station test
Local test
• Hop test
Test of the microwave link between two adjacent stations
• Section test
Quality (performance) test between two terminal station

Service Team WTD — 55 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure

♦ Tests instruments

STM1 Electrical Interface

 One digital multimeter
 Two (at least one) BER analyzers, ex ANT 5, ANT 20
 Service Channel bit rate analyzer, ex PFA 35 W&G
 1 Frequency Meter
 1 Power Meter
 Cables : 2 cables 1.0/2.3 (for physical loopback) per station , cables for BER analyzers
 1 CT loaded with Local and Remote Craft Terminal application Software at the customer release
 1 CT cable (F interface – RS232 SUDB9)

Switch position on Modem Board (in general case)

Service Team WTD — 60 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

♦ Switch I1
 Dipswitch 1:
- On(0) : if you use the daughter board for XPIC
- Off(1) : If you use the daughter board for Diversity
Nota: If you have no daughter board, the position of this switch will have no importance

 Dipswitch 2:
- On(0) : The carrier frequency isn’t modulated (you send only the carry
frequency, so you can see in reception, on the other side, if you have an
interference) => only for maintenance test!!!
- Off(1) : The carrier frequency is modulated ( it is always the case)
 Dipswitch 3 & 4 : Always on « OFF » (1) - Factory option -

Service Team WTD — 61 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

♦ Switch I2:
 Dipswitch 1: For XPIC Configuration
- On(0) : Modulator is working in polarisation H
- Off(1) : Modulator is working in polarisation V
Nota: When you don’t have XPIC, it is better to have the same configuration for
all demodulators and modulators in the two sites!!
 Dipswitch 2: For XPIC Configuration
- On(0) : Demodulator is working in polarisation H
- Off(1) : Demodulator is working in polarisation V
 Dipswitch 3 & 4 : Always on « OFF » (1) - Factory option –

♦ Switch I3: Factory use only

Service Team WTD — 62 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

 Powering up the station

• Check the serial numbers of the boards with the Remote Inventory (CT):
=> Supervision => Upload remote Inventory (refresh the remote Inventory)

 Diagnosis => View remote Inventory

 A file .txt is created, and you can save it

Service Team WTD — 63 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

♦ Channel frequency checks

 Radio => Frequency

 Compare Tx Frequency and Rx Frequency in order
to see if they are in the Upper Half or Lower Half of the Band
Ex: Rx=8.1 GHz > Tx = 7.8 GHz
=> Tx in the Upper Half of the band

Service Team WTD — 64 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

Rx Frequency Measurement

(1) Connect a frequency meter at J7 input to mesure the Rx Frequency

(2) You see Frequency measured = F (Hz)
Calculate:
Real Rx Frequency = 2 * F(Hz) + 140 Mhz if you are measuring an
« Upper Half of the Band » Frequency. (see page 61)
Real Rx Frequency = 2 * F(Hz) - 140 Mhz if you are measuring an
« Lower Half of the Band » Frequency.

Frequency Meter

Service Team WTD — 65 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

Tx Frequency Measurement

(1) Connect a frequency meter at J8 input to mesure the Tx Frequency

(2) You see Frequency measured = F (Hz)
Calculate:
Real Tx Frequency = 2 * F(Hz) + 140 Mhz if you are measuring an
« Upper Half of the Band » Frequency. (see page 61)
Real Tx Frequency = 2 * F(Hz) - 140 Mhz if you are measuring an
« Lower Half of the Band » Frequency.

Frequency Meter

Service Team WTD — 66 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

Commissionning Procedure - Local Tests

Results Sheet
1 ppm = F/106
For F = 8 Ghz , 1ppm = 8. 109 / 106 = 8.103 = 8 kHz
Thus, if Tolerance is equal to +/- 10ppm, Tolerance = +/- 80 kHz

Service Team WTD — 70 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

RT Switch configuration

♦ Switch 1,2,3,4,5 on I3 – I5 are used to select number of the channel in the Frequency
Plan (refer to Technical Handbook Section 3)

Exemple: Transceiver working in Tx = 6197,24Mhz and Rx = 5945,20Mhz for the

channel 3:

Service Team WTD — 71 All rights reserved 2005, Alcatel

RT Switch configuration

♦ It is exactly the same configuration for Dipswitch 1,2,3,4,5 on I3 and I5 because it is the
same channel of the Frequency Plan

♦ For Dipswitchs 6 and 7: They have to be the opposites

To configure a frequency in the « Upper Half of the Band » , Set switch 6 : OFF
and switch 7: ON (I3 or I5)
To configure a frequency in the « Lower Half of the Band » , Set switch 6 : ON
and switch 7: OFF (I3 or I5)
