What is the instrument with moving coil?

 The instrument with moving coil measures the electric current based on the
measurement of the force that triggers the coil located in the permanent
magnet field.
 That the instrument based on analog style with cursor scale.

Analog Volt-meter Scale of Volt-meter

How it works?

 As we said that instrument measures the electric

current based on the measurement of the force
that triggers the coil.
 In different sides of the coil, force act in opposite
directions, which means we have force compund.
 When the opposite moment and active moment
become equal, cursor will stop and we can read
measured value.

α=𝑂∗𝐼
Pros of the instrument with moving coil

 Pros of the instrument with moving coil in compare to another

measurement mechanisms:

• great sensitivity
• great precision
• fast cursor stop
• uniform scale
Cons of the instrument with moving coil

 Cons of the instrument with moving coil in compare to another

measurement mechanisms:

• very complex construction

• relative high price
• very sensitive on overload
• temperature have effects on measurement precision
Where do we use it?

 The instrument with moving coil can be used as an Amper-meter, Volt-

meter, Ohm-meter or we can use it as an analog multimeter, but in certain
limits:

• We can only measure DC current

• For the currents from 10pA to 10mA
• Voltage can`t be less than 0.1mV
• Multimeters are sorted in precision classes from 0.2 to 1.5
