August Comte (1798-1897) – was generally recognized as the “father of
sociology” who coined the word Sociology in 1838 to designate to his newly
formulated “Science of the associated life of humanity”. At the age of 16, he
left home and went to Paris and enrolled in Scole Polytechnique. In 1818,
he met Saint-Simon, a famous French socialist, with whom he
collaborated on a series of essays. When major differences developed
between them, they ended their relationship with much bitterness.

Comte eventually reached the conclusion that he should develop

his own ideas; he decided that he would not read any scientific writings,
reviews, or even newspaper, to keep his mind from being contaminated
by the thoughts of others.
