Communication
- a complex process
- difficult to determine where or with whom a
communication encounter starts and ends.
- Models of communication simplify the process by
providing a visual representation of the various aspects of a
communication encounter.

“Some models explain communication in more detail than others,


but even the most complex model still doesn’t recreate what we
experience in even a moment of a communication encounter. “
Awareness of how communication functions, makes it possible to
think more deliberately through communication encounters which can help
prepare for future communication and learn from your previous
communication.
Communication exchanges thoughts, ideas, concepts and views
between and among people with with context come into play.
Context is the circumstance or environment in which
communication takes place.
Circumstances may include:
a. physical or actual setting
b. value positions of speakers/listeners
c. relevance/appropriateness of the message conveyed
Factors that interplay in the context of communication include:
a. physical
b. cultural
c. social
d. psychological

Where communication may be classified according to:


1. Communication mode
2. Context
3. Purpose and style
