Learning Objective
Students can create a test based off learning objectives.
Definition
● Teachers develop tests to assess their students’ comprehension on the
learning objective.
● Tests help teachers understand who in the class met the learning
objectives.
● The results also give teachers feedback on how well they are teaching a
lesson.
● These tests are sometimes called “paper and pencil” tests because that is
most likely all students need to do them.
Types of Test Questions
● True-false questions
● Multiple-choice questions
● Matching questions
● Fill-in-the-blank or short-answer questions
● Identification questions
● Essay questions
Constructing Tests
● Write questions that match the levels of the objectives. Use questions that
evaluate if the students’ learning matches the learning objectives
● Match the proportion of questions to the emphasis placed on various
objectives.
● Limit the number of different types of questions to three or four. Having
too many types of test questions puts more emphasis on following
directions instead of assessing content.
● Group questions of the same type together.
Constructing Tests
● Be sure that questions do not give answers or clues to other questions.
● Provide clear directions for each section of the test
● Evaluate existing tests or questions carefully before use. Teachers should
review tests to make sure they reflect on the content and how it was
taught.
● Format the test for ease of use.
● Format the test for ease of grading. Teachers typically find that leaving
space to write answers to the questions makes it easier to grade. Make
sure there is only one #1,2,3… For older students write how much each
question is worth.
