• Open Door Policy- no single country could have a monopoly of
trade with China
• Helped put down the Boxer Rebellion

2. Why did the United States get involved in Latin America?
• Panama canal made it easier to travel from Atlantic to Pacific
• Businesses wanted cheap food and raw materials (bananas,
coffee and copper) and wanted land for farming and mining
