• Actions that happened in a known point in time.


• Markers: yesterday, last month, back then…
Be, do, have – auxiliaries

• Do – did
• Have – had
Formation - Regular verbs
• To put regular verbs into the Past Simple Tense, you add –ed suffix to
the infinitive
• If the verb ends in –e, you just add –d suffix (smile)

• If the verb ends in –y, then the y turns to i, then add –ed suffix (try –
tried)
• Short verbs double last letter before adding –ed suffix (stop – stopped)

• Irregular verbs – 2nd column

John watched TV all night long.
Mary ate her breakfast this morning.
The police were searching his home, but Mark was fine. He had nothing.
Usain Bolt just broke the record! He did it!

Mary did not ate eat her breakfast this morning.
The police were not searching his home, but Mark was not fine. He did not had have anything.
Usain Bolt did not just broke break the record! He did not do it!
