PRINCIPLES

OF ARTS
GROUP IV
WHAT IS ART?
 Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires,
but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we
experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality. It is
the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully
portrayed by words alone. And because words alone are not enough, we
must find some other vehicle to carry our intent. But the content that we
still on or in our chosen media is not in itself the art. Art is to be found
in how the media is used, the way in which the content is expressed.

HARMONY
Specifically, harmony uses the elements of art (
color, line, shape, form, value, space, texture) as a
vehicle to create a sense of togetherness amongst
otherwise separate parts. A set of colours that relate
according to a specific scheme creates harmony.
MOVEMENT
An art movement is a tendency or style
in art with a specific common philosophy or goal,
followed by a group of artists during a restricted
period of time, (usually a few months, years or
decades) or, at least, with the heyday of
the movement defined within a number of years.
RHYTHM
Rhythm in design is also known as
repetition. Rhythm allows your designs to
develop an overall consistency that makes it
easier for your customers to understand.
REPETITION
Repetition of certain design
elements in a design will bring a clear sense
of unity, consistency, and
cohesiveness. REPETITION is the use of
similar or connected pictorial elements.
PATTERN
The repetition of elements of design creates
unity within the artwork. Patterns often occur in
nature, and artists use similar repeated motifs to
create pattern in their work. Pattern increases
visual excitement by enriching surface interest.
