Must and Mustn’t
 Must is used to say that something is
necessary to be done.
You must go now or you’ll be late.

 Mustn’t (i.e. must not) is used to say that


something is not allowed to be done.
She mustn’t say such a thing to older
people. It is impolite.
Participle Phrases (1)
The present participle can be used to
replace a relative clause in the active
voice.

• The house which is standing at the foot


of the hill belongs to the royal family.
• The house standing at the foot of the
hill belongs to the royal family.

The past participle can be used to
replace a relative clause in the
passive voice.

• The Thames River, which is situated


between East London and West
London, flows into the sea.

into the sea.
