Jane Addams

• the founder of Hull-House
• a pioneering leader in social work, the peace
movement, and women’s rights
• developed an educational philosophy called
socialized education.
• She based her educational theory on her
efforts to improve the living and working
conditions of immigrants in Chicago and to
mobilize women to work for social and
educational reforms.
Hull-House
• Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr opened
the Hull-House.The Museum is comprised of
two of the settlement complex's original
thirteen buildings, the Hull-Home and the
Residents' Dining Hall.
