What is ideology?

• Ideology is an interrelated set of ideas


that in some way guides or inspires
political action.

• An ideology is a reasonably is a reasonably


coherent structure of thought shared by a
group of people. It is a means of
explaining how society works and
explaining how it ought to work.
• Some uses of the term see ideology as
something negative, implying a distorted
view of reality.
Liberalism

• Individual freedom
• Equality of Opportunity
• Government by consent
• States role is to safeguard
freedom of the individual
• Classical Liberalism: A commitment to an
extreme form of individualism: belief in
‘negative’ liberty
• Modern liberalism: characterized by a
more sympathetic attitude towards state
intervention; a broader ‘positive’ liberty
which is linked to the personal
development and flourishing of the
individual
Conservatism

• Importance of tradition
• Gradual social change
• Human beings are
imperfect and flawed
• States role is to maintain
oreder
• Paternalistic conservatism; often linked to
idea of ‘compassionate conservatism’ –
consistent with ideas of hierarchy and duty
Socialism

• Collectivism
• Equality
• Opposed to capitalism
• Human beings are capable
of self- fulfillment if given
the opportunity by society
• Socialism developed as a reaction to
industrial capitalism and became
associated with the interests of the
growing working classes. Its goal was to
abolish the capitalism market economy
and replace it with a society constructed
on the basis of common ownership.

This can be seen because:

have just one political ideology of its
brings different set of principles to each
life of Filipinos.

political life puts up set of different
opinions and beliefs from group to
individual political party and through
these the ideas of how a society should
work varies on how the power will
allocate.
• Political Ideologies also affect ones social
life as everyone fight for their right of
understanding as each opinion contain
certain ideas to provide recommendation
for the betterment of one country.
