• US Federal Reserve to inject $600 Billion into the US economy.
• Government to buy long-term securities.
• The yield on 10-year Treasury notes rose from 2.54 to 2.58 per cent.
• The move is probably the last chance to boost economic growth.
• Quantitative easing is a way for the Fed to boost the economy by
driving down long-term interest rates when short-term rates are
already at zero.
• Many economists question how much the Fed can boost the
economy when households are saving to compensate for the lower
value of their homes.
• Some also fear the effect on the rest of the world should QE2 cause
the dollar to fall further.
• US Midterm Elections
• Republicans seize control of the House of Representatives
• Democrats keep control of the Senate
• Low taxes-small government campaign movement known as the Tea Party has helped the
Republicans to big gains

• Merapi volcano forces cancellation of flights

• Several airlines have temporarily suspended flights between Singapore and Jakarta because
of volcanic ash spewing from Mount Merapi in central Java.
• Among those affected were Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Lufthansa
and Cathay Pacific.

• Qantas CEO: Oil leaks in 3 engines of its A380s

• Australia's national carrier grounded its six double-decker A380s
• Engine burst minutes into a flight from Singapore to Sydney last week, scattering debris over
Indonesia's Batam island.
• Shares in Rolls-Royce Group PLC slumped almost 4 percent to 568.5 pence ($9.18) Monday
morning on the London Stock Exchange. They lost more than 5 percent last week after
