Accreditation

A process to evaluate and recognize an institution for


meeting a peer developed standards established for the
purpose of promoting qualities education.

Types of acceradation
There are two main types of accreditation – institutional
and programmatic. Institutional accreditation reviews
educational institutions, while programmatic
accreditation reviews specific programs within
institutions. There are also two branches of institutional
accreditation – regional and national.

Regional accreditation is the most highly regarded
form of accreditation., it covers public and private,
nonprofit and degree-granting, two- or four-year
institutions.
• It focus on one of the six U.S. regions – West,
Northwest, North, Middle, South, and New England.

• National Accreditation
It oversees specialized and nontraditional institutions
nationwide like vocational colleges, technical colleges,
religious colleges, and online universities.

Programmatic Accreditation is designated for
specialized departments, programs, schools, or colleges
within a college or university that have already been
awarded institutional .
• It focuses on particular aspects of the department,
program, school, or college's specified academic field
of study.
• For instance, this type of accreditation status
recognizes particular aspects of quality in the
academic fields of engineering, nursing, law, or
education, among others.

Historical background of acceradation
• Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to
continuously improve health care for the public, in
collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating
health care organizations and inspiring them to excel
in providing safe and effective care of the highest
quality and value. The Joint Commission evaluates
and accredits more than 21,000 health care
organizations and programs in the United States

ISO 9000
• ISO 9000 is defined as a set of international standards
on quality management and quality assurance
developed to help companies effectively document
the quality system elements needed to maintain an
efficient quality system. They are not specific to any
one industry and can be applied to organizations of
any size.

History of ISO 9000
• ISO 9000 can help a company satisfy its customers, meet
regulatory requirements, and achieve continual
improvement. It should be considered to be a first step or
the base level of a quality system.
• First published in March 1987, Quality management
systems – Requirements has become the most successful
standard in the history of the International Organization
for Standardization.
• The popularity of the ISO 9000 series the way for other
management system standards, including:

Difference between ISO 9000 and JCIA

• ISO 9000 is a family of standards that describe a

systems.
• It is an international standards for the development of
quality management system that can be adopted by
any business .

• Joint Commission International (JCI) works to improve patient


safety and quality of health care in the international
community by offering education, advisory services, and
international accreditation and certification.
• JCI partners with hospitals, clinics, and academic medical
centers;
• health systems and agencies; government ministries;
academia; and international advocates to promote rigorous
standards of care and to provide solutions for achieving peak
performance.

Importance of accreditation in growth of the
institutions
• Accreditation is important because it:
• Helps determine if an institution meets or exceeds
minimum standards of quality.
• Helps students determine acceptable institutions for
enrollment. Assists institutions in determining
acceptability of transfer credits.
• Accreditation is considered a standard through which
a healthcare facility or service is shown to offer
quality and healthcare that meet minimum standards
and guidelines offered by various domestic and
international quality boards.

staff and the community of your commitment to the

,suppliers design is according to the standards.
