Thomas Alva Edison was born in 11/2/1847 in Milan, Ohio
• The youngest of seven children of Samuel and Nancy Edison
• An American inventor who is considered one of America's leading businessmen.
• Created such great innovations as the electric
light bulb and the phonograph
• Held more than 1,000 patents for his inventions.
CHILDHOOD
• Edison started school late
because of an illness
• When Edison was twelve
years old, he contracted
scarlet fever
• At age sixteen, Edison made
his first invention, which
was called an "automatic
repeater."
BEGINNING HIS CAREER
• He started working as a telegrapher at the age of 16
• He worked even more on his invention after moving to
Boston
