Length of Confidence Intervals
• The length of confidence interval is the
difference between the upper confidence limit
and lower confidence limit of the interval
estimate. It is mathematically expressed as

Length
Identify and Compute the length of
the confidence intervals.
1. A random sample of 420 voters in a
certain district produced 231 voters in
favor of candidate W. Using a 99%
confidence, compute the length of the
confidence interval of the proportion of
voters in favor of candidate W.
2. A sample of 350 engineering
applications included 140 women.
Using a 95% confidence, , compute
the length of the confidence
interval for the proportion of
women applicants.
3. A sample of 500 nursing applications
included 60 from men. Using a 95%
confidence, , compute the length of the
confidence interval for the proportion men
applicants.
4. A survey of 200,000 boat owners found
that 12% of the pleasure boats were named
Serenity. Using a 99% confidence, ,
compute the length of the confidence
interval for the proportion of boats who
named Serenity.
