BRAKE

• The function is reduces the speed of the vehicle or stop it.

.
• One of the most important control components of vehicle.
• The other function is prevent the accident.
• They are required to stop vehicle within smallest possible distance.
• This is done by converting kinetic energy of vehicle into heat.
Method of actuation

•Mechanical brakes
•Hydraullic brakes
•Air brakes
Mechanical brakes
• Mechanical brakes are assemblies consisting of mechanical elements
for the slowing of vehicle, they use levers or linkages to transmit force
from one point to another.
Brake hydraulics

• When you push the brake pedal it

depresses a piston in the master
cylinder, forcing fluid along the
pipe.

• The fluid travels to slave cylinders

at each wheel and fills them,
forcing pistons out to apply the
brakes.

• Fluid pressure distributes itself

evenly around the system.
ELECTRICAL BRAKES

Electrical brakes are actuador devices that use an electrical current or magnetic actuating force to slow
or stop the motion of the vehicle.

There are two types

•Magnetic
•Friccion
Parts of the brake system
Disc and Drum Brake
Drum Parking Brakes
Air Brakes
• All air brake systems use air pressure to make the brake work when you put your
foot on the pedal. The air is stored in several pressure tanks and a compressor
pressurizes it in the truck engine. Most, if not all systems, operate at 685 Kpa,
99.5 PSI or 6.85 BAR pressure.
ABS SYSTEM
Introduction
• Antilock braking systems (ABSs) are electronic systems that monitor and
control wheel slip during vehicle braking.

• ABS can improve vehicle control during braking, and reduce stopping
distances on slippery road surfaces by limiting wheel slip and minimizing
lockup.

• Reducing wheel slip improves vehicle stability and control during braking,
since stability increases as wheel slip decreases.

ADVANTAGES
• It allows the driver to maintain directional stability and control over steering during braking
• Safe and effective
• Automatically changes the brake fluid pressure at each wheel to maintain optimum brake
performance.
• ABS absorbs the unwanted turbulence shock waves and modulates the pulses thus permitting the
wheel to continue turning under maximum braking pressure

DISADVANTAGES
• It is very costly.
• Maintenance cost of a car equipped with ABS is more costly.
