About softwares:

• To reduce the laborious and tedious calculations involved in the

designing and analysis of the buildings, software plays a vital role.
The Softwares are SAP,E-TABS, STAAD.Pro, ANSYS, SAFE etc..

• Among them E-TABS and STAAD.Pro is powerful and widely

using Softwares.

4
STAAD. Pro
• STAAD Pro is a Structural Analysis And Design Software which
can be used to design and analysis of RCC and steel structures
according to the relevant country code.

• The design methods used in STAAD-Pro. analysis are limit state

design confirming to Indian Standard code of practice.

• STAAD -Pro. has a very interactive user interface which allows the
users to draw the frame and input the load values and
dimensions.
5
ADVANTAGES:
• Faster method of designing the structure.
• Accuracy in results.
• Easily identified the errors.
• Easy to learn.
• We can Design structure for any type of load.

Limitations:
• Not for costing and estimating.
• Require proper skill for typical designs.
• Don't show the amount of material used.
• Not for brick masonary work.

6
AUTOCAD:
• Commercial computer-Aided Design(CAD).It was implimented by
AutoDesk.
• Autocad is a 2D and 3D computer-aided drafting software
application used in architecture, construction and manufacturing
to assist in the preparation of blueprints and other engineering
plans.
• It gives detailed description about any component in graphical
form.
Advantages:
• Time saving(but not always)
• Easy to edit
• Ease of repetition and addition.
• Corrections can be made easily.
• 2D and 3D production of drawings is very easy.
Limitations:
• The program has a high cost, due to its license.
• Work can be lost if the computer crashes.
• Time taken to learn how to use the software.
• Continual need for updating software or operating system.

8
Reference Codes in Project :
• SP-16 – for design aids of R.C.C Structures.
• SP-34 – concrete reinforcement and detailing.
• IS 456-2000 – for plain and R.C.C. structures

Different types of loads:

• Dead load(IS-875-part-1)
• Live load(IS-875-part-2)
• wind load(IS-875-part-3)
• Seismic load(IS-1893:2002)

10
load combinations:
• 1.5(DL+LL)
• 1.5(DL+WL)
• 1.5(DL+EL)
• 1.2(DL+LL+WL)
• 1.2(DL+LL+EL)
• 0.9DL+1.5WL
• 0.9DL+1.5EL
• 1.0(DL+LL)
• 1.0(DL+WL)
• 1.0(DL+EL)
• 1.0(DL+LL+WL)
• 1.0(DL+LL+EL)

11
Static and Dynamic Methods for seismic loads :
• Seismic loads may be calculated by two methods, namely,
Equivalent Static Analysis method and Dynamic Analysis.
• For seismic lateral force calculation, Equivalent static force method is
applicable commonly used because of its simplification.
• The seismic load shall be assumed as an equivalent static horizontal force
applied to individual frames.
• ESA method is an empirical formula dependent on the height of the
structure.

12
Base Shear in ESA design:
• The lateral forces in terms of the base shear and the static analysis of the
structure for these forces provide the base shear.
• The total design lateral force or design seismic base shear(Vb) along any
principal direction shall be determined by the following expression.
Vb=Ah*W
where,
Ah = Design spectrum
W = Seismic weight of the building

Conclusion :
• Staad.Pro is used to calculate the reinforcement needed
for any concrete section.
• Beams are Design for flexure, shear reinforcement.

Results :
• Design of flexure
• Design of shear
• Beam design output
• Column design output
