NANOMATERIALS AND NANOTECHNOLOGY ?

• Nanoscale materials are defined as a set of substances where at least one

dimension is less than approximately 100 nanometres.
• Nanotechnology is the design, fabrication and application of nanomaterials
and the fundamental understanding of the relationships between physical
properties or phenomena and material dimensions.
HISTORY

• The first ever concept was presented in 1959 by physicist Dr. Richard P.
Feynman.
• Invention of the scanning tunneling microscope in 1981 and the discovery of
fullerene in 1985 led to the emergence of nanotechnology.
• The term nanotechnology has been termed by Norio Taniguchi in 1974.
