* In 1594, there were 5 religious orders:
* Augustinians
* Franciscans
* Dominicans
* Jesuits
* Recollects
*
* They spread Catholicism in the provinces of Ilocos,
Pampanga, Pangasinan ans Visayas.
* The Augustinians made a big impact in the Philippines
in such a way that they were the first ones who
brought christianity to its people with the help of the
Spaniards.
* Some of the Spaniards were Augustinians and this
altogether influenced the entire country to practice its
beliefs especially the Rule of St. Augustine and in the
future years, it came to spread thus gaining more
members on the way.
* MASS BAPTISM
* initial practice of baptizing large numbers of
Filipino at one time enabled the initial
conversion to Christianity.

and convent in a marshy and mosquito-infested place
and was named Santo Domingo in honor of their holy
father St. Dominic of Guzman.

* Problem that arose:


* The hostility could be due to the harsh collection of
tribute by the Spanish government since 1574 and the
natives’ faithfulness to their supreme deity and
reverence to their priests and priestesses.

* They taught the Catholic doctrine among native of
Zambales.
