GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!

RADIO WAVES -
are the EM waves found at the left end of the
EM spectrum(arranged from low frequencies
to high frequencies). They are the type of EM
waves with the longest wavelength but they
are low frequencies thereby carrying the
lowest energy from among the EM waves.
Have the longest wavelength
Lowest frequency
Produced by making electrons vibrate in
antenna
Used to transmit sound and pictures
information over long distances
RADIO WAVES FREQUENCIES
LOW FREQUENCY WAVES-
Are suitable for communication over great
distances. But the curvature of the earth limits
the range to about 8O km. To extend the range,
a repeater is used.
HIGH FREQUENCY WAVES-
Can be reflected by the ionosphere. This enables
the waves to be transmitted over great distances.
MEDIUM AND HIGH FREQUENCY WAVES-
Are used for broadcasting by local radio
stations. Very high frequency waves provides
a higher quality broadcasting including stereo
sound.
GLOSSARY OF TERMS:
Wavelength- the distance measured from
one crest of a wave to the next crest or from
one trough the second trough.
Frequency- number of cycles a wave
completes in one second; expressed in Hertz
Wavebands- a range of wavelengths falling
between two given limits, used in radio
transmission.
Ionosphere- the layer of the Earth’s
atmosphere that is ionized by solar and
cosmic radiation.
Repeater- receives the signal and re-
transmits it to the receiving station.
Audio-frequency(AF)signals- the property of
the sound that most determines pitch.
Radio-frequency(RF)signals- is a waveform
that is modulated with an input signal for the
purpose of conveying information. This
carrier wave usually has a much higher
frequency than input signal does.
Amplitude modulation- the modulation of a
wave by varying its amplitude, used as
chiefly as means of radiobroadcasting, in
which an audio signal is combined with a
carrier wave.
Frequency modulation- the modulation of
radio or other wave by variation of its
frequency, especially to carry an audio signal.
