Speaking Skills
What is speaking ?

Speaking:
Speaking is an act of making vocal sounds usually for
purposes of communication, to convey one’s thoughts and feelings in
spoken language.

Speaking Skills:
Skills that give us the ability to communicate effectively.
These skills allow speaker to convey his message in a passionate and
convincing manner
Speaking skills also help assure that one won’t be misunderstood by
those who are listening
Speaking Skills

Speaking is a productive skill in the oral mode. It is more


complicated than it seems at first and involves more
than just pronouncing words
There are three kinds of speaking situations
1. Interactive
2. Partially Interactive, and
3. Non-interactive
Speaking Skills

• Practice where you can, when you can: any practice is


good whether you speak to native English speaker or
not.
• Build confidence, Use simple sentence structures that
you know is correct
• Don’t speak too fast or too slow
• Intonations and stress words should be given attention
• Participate in more activities
• Practice makes man perfect
READING SKILLS

Reading
It is a cognitive process of decoding symbols to
derive meaning from text (as in reading a book or reading
music)

Components of Reading:
1. Decoding
2. Comprehension
3. Retention
