USES OF PLANTS

People and animals cannot live
without plants. People and animals give off
carbon dioxide needed by the plants. The
plants give oxygen in return. Plants play an
important role to living things especially to
us human beings.
1.PLANTS AS FOOD
Plants provide fruits, vegetables,
beverages, and grains. They give
enough nutrients that our body needs
in order to be healthy and strong
2. PLANTS AS SHELTER
Plants can serve as a shelter to animals
and other plants too, particularly in forests
where most wild animals live. Birds build
their nests on the branches of tree. Plants
also provide shades for resting.
3. PLANTS AS MATERIAL SUPPLY
Plants provide materials such as cotton
and pineapple that can be made into thread.
These threads are woven into clothes and
made into dresses, curtains, and the barong.
Fibers are from pineapple leaves.
They are mostly used in making gowns
and barongs. The fiber of a pineapple is
called a piña.
4. PLANTS AS A SOURCE OF FUEL
Some plants like trees, give us
wood for fuel. It is also used for
making charcoal.
5. PLANTS AS MEDICINE
Some plants are good and immediate
sources of medicine. These plants are
called medicinal plants.
a. OREGANO LEAVES –Extracted juice of
the oregano is good for cough. Also good
for burns, bruises, and insects bites.
b. PAPAYA LEAVES- This can be good to
eat when having a constipation as it
helps when having difficulty in bowel
movement.
C. GUAVA- Boiled guava leaves can be used
to wash wounds and can even cure
stomach aches.
6. PLANTS AS DECORATIVES
Plants can serve as decorations.
Flowers are nice to see inside or outside
the house. You can even decorate your
room, office, or garden with flowers in
baskets, vases, and any form of flower
arrangements.
Plants also help in preventing soil
erosion particularly in mountainous areas.
They hold the soil through their roots.
