REQUIREMENTS TO BE A TRAFFIC WARDEN OR FLAG PERSON

Ability to RECEIVE and


COMMUNICATE specific instructions
CLEARLY, FIRMLY and CONSISTENTLY

Ability to move and maneuver


quickly to avoid danger from errant
vehicles
Ability to CONTROL hand signal flags
and to give CLEAR and POSITIVE
guidance to drivers approaching
work area in frequently changing
situations.
Ability to UNDERSTAND and APPLY
site traffic control procedures
sometimes in stressful or emergency
situations.
Ability to RECOGNIZE dangerous
traffic situations and WARN others in
sufficient time to avoid injury.
MAIN FUNCTIONS

STOPPING TRAFFIC

RELEASING TRAFFIC

SLOWING TRAFFIC
Giving Flag signals at  Haul truck and other  Stand where you can see and be
intersections mining equipment easily seen and stay out of path of
interface with public mobile equipment
thoroughfare.  Ensure flag shed window is
properly latched when open
 Always give clear and precise
signals
 Stop vehicles on the haul road by
holding up the red flag
 When it is safe for the stopped
traffic to proceed, withdraw the
red flag and hold up the green flag
 If the intersection is narrow, stop
empty trucks and allow loaded
trucks to proceed first
 Do not encourage congregation of
persons at flag shed
 Do not take your children to work
with you
 If temporarily absent from post,
place red signal Flag in a position
where it can be clearly seen by
users of the Haul Road (except
major parochial road
intersections) .This indicates that
all operators should stop at the
intersection and proceed when
safe to do so.
