MEANING OF CONFLICT
According james in Indayani thesis ”The Main Character’s conflicts in Maxwell
Aderson’s play”. Conflict is a form of interaction in which people (individually
or in –group ) perceive themselves as being involved in a struggle over
resources or social values.

dilemma.
CHARACTER VS CHARACTER
A situation in which two
characters have opposing
desires or interest.
CHARACTER VS. NATURE
Perhaps the simplest of all types of
external conflict, in stories that feature a Character
vs. Nature storyline, the main character struggles
against an animal, the weather, or the terrain, most
often motivated by simple survival. Here, the
character's enemy is not another person, but
instead the natural world. Often, the protagonist is
stranded in the wilderness, threatened by a storm
or blizzard, or struck by a terrible disease, and
must fight for their life. Many adventure stories
center on a character vs. nature conflict.

CHARACTER VS. SOCIETY
In this type of conflict, a character struggles against some
element of society, whether it be a corrupt government, a
religious system, socialized mindsets (e.g. homophobia,
misogyny, racism), economic issues (e.g. recessions, layoffs,
bankruptcy), inequality, or societal expectations.

Many desires — including survival,

stability, human rights, happiness,
freedom, justice, and morality —
may motivate a character to take
action against their society in this
style of story.
