Voluntary vs. Involuntary
Involuntary Listener – seldom to
become a good audience

Voluntary listener – listen by choice, a


good type of audience that they always
give their attention to the speaker.
Casual vs Purposeful Listening
Casual listener – gives offhand, careless or irregular
attention to what you say.
- very short step from not listening at all.

Purposeful listener – kind of audience who sets a


purpose to listen, but, if the speaker fail to recognize
his/her purpose he might turned to a casual listener.
Discipline vs Motivated
Disciplined listener – reap a fine harvest because they
have the innate ability to listen.
- they listen because they want to and find
pleasure in doing so.

Motivated listener – takes place when the promise of


reward is great enough to command the listener
attention without having to exercise great self-discipline.
Critical vs Uncritical Listening
Critical Listener – religiously follow the speaker’s ideas
carefully and tries to evaluate them objectively.
- Best kind of audience for a speaker who knows what he/she
talking about and willing to enter his/her ideas in free.

Uncritical listener – it implies to poor critical insight.


- if you are not critically evaluated the idea of
the speaker it might lead to a risky situation.
Cooperative vs Hostile Listening
Cooperative listener – hopes for the best
from the speaker and gives a friendly
attention.

Hostile listener – dislikes the speaker ideas


and makes thing difficult for him/her.
