Mrs. Meenoti Rani Basak is

handicraft and she has been
practicing this for about 15 years
now. She spends at an average of
10 hours a day on this craft
throughout the year. She is not
engaged with any other
handicraft other than this. From
September to October(before
the puja season) the demand of
this craft is the highest . The
practice of this craft has caused
some health issues like damage
of eyesight ,back pain etc.

Mrs. Jharna basak is associated

with weaving TANT and
JAMDANI sarees for more than
10 years now. Her family has got
4 active workers who are all
female. She doesn’t have any
average working period on a
daily basis ,she works whenever
she can. Like most other weavers
she works throughout the year.
Before the Puja season the
demand is the highest. Apart
from weaving she is also a bit
involved in the business. She is
accosiated with a SHG called ‘Jay
Maa Durga’ which consists of 12-
13 members.
BIKAS BASAK

Mr. Bikas Basak is accosiated

with weaving foe more than 12
years now. He has a family of 4
which includes 2 females and
one child. He is the only active
worker but his wife and mother
are 2 helping hands in his job.
Mr. Basak works for 8-10 hours a
day for 6-9 months per year.
According to him the demand of
his craft is the highest from
August to September. His
working was shifted to the new
weavers service centre of kalna
in 2008-9. he is a part of a SHG
called BIDYASAGAR TANTUJUGI
SANIRBHAR GOSHTI.

Mr. Mandal got his secondary

education from kalna . He is
associated with TANT craft . He
has been practicing his craft from
last 15 years. Mr. Mandal and his
brother are both actively
practicing their craft and both
their wives help with the pre-
loom work. They both work
throughout the year and during
the Puja season the domand is
high.he is a part of some local
SHG. He is suffering from joint
pain and eyesight problems due
to the work.
SHEFALI BASAK

Mrs. Basak besically helps her

husband with pre-loom works
and also does a little bit of
weaving . She has been doing
this for more than 10 years now.
Other than her husband there
are 3 more active members who
are associated with this
craft(TANT). They all work
throughout the year and before
the Puja season the demand
goes high. She is a part of some
local SHG.
KAMAL BASAK

ADDRESS- Koochbihar

Mr. Kamal Basak is associated

with weaving and he has been
doing so for last 10 years he
works 2 hours a day on this craft
and he is also associated with
agriculture. During the puja
season his workplace gets shifted
to Nitun Basak Maalik. He is not
a part of any organization.
NIMAI BASAK

Mr. Nimai Basak is associated

with handloom for last 15 years.
He comes from a family of 3 (2
female and himself ) . His mother
and wife help with the spinning
and Mr. Basak does the weaving.
He spends 8-9 hours a day. As
this is the only way of earning he
practices this craft throughout
the year. The demand of this
craft is the highest during the
Puja season. He is not associated
with organizations such as any
SHGs or Cooperative or any other
society.

Mr. Haram Sarkar is associated

with handloom for more than 15
years now. He owns 4 looms at
his house. He spends 8 hours a
day. He works 6-9 months a year
and he is not associated with any
other activity. His working area
was shifted to Tangail dist
recently. He is a part a cluster
cuntortia which includes other
73 members from all over India.
