with four sides,four angles and
four vertices.
2. The word 'quadrilateral' is derived
from two latin words:
'Quadri' and 'Lateral'.

Rectangles
A rectangle has the following properties:

• The diagonals of a rectangle bisect each other.

• The opposite sides of a rectangle are parallel.

• The opposite sides of a rectangle are equal.

• All angles are right angled by definition.

• The diagonals are congruent.


Square

A square has the following properties:

• The diagonals of a square bisect each other.

• The opposite sides of a square are parallel.

• The diagonals of a square are equal.

• All angles are right angled by definition.


Rhombus
A rhombus has the following properties:

• All pairs of the consecutive sides of a rhombus are congruent.

• The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular.

• One diagonal of a rhombus bisects a pair of opposite angles.

• The opposite sides of a rhombus are parallel.

• It looks like a diamond or kite.


Trapezoid
A trapezoid has the following properties:

• The bases are parallel by definition.

• Each lower base angle is supplementary to the upper base angle on


the same side.

• The properties of the isosceles trapezoid are as follows:

• The properties of trapezoid apply by definition (parallel bases).

• The legs are congruent by definition.
