Continuous Uniform
Distribution
For the uniform distribution, f(x) is constant over
the possible values of x.
Continuous Uniform
Distribution - Conditions
Condition #1
Events are independent.

Condition #2
Result of each probability is equal.

Condition #3
The function of x is constant.

Condition #4
Limits are placed within the given values.
Continuous Uniform
Distribution
For the uniform distribution, f(x) is constant over
the possible values of x.
Area = base * height
= (d-c) * f(x)
= 1

F (x) = 1/d-c
Continuous Uniform
Distribution
For continuous probability distributions, finding
areas usually requires integration.

But for the uniform distribution, areas under the

curve are simply rectangles.
Median = c+d/2

μ = c+d/2

𝜎^2 = 1/12*(d-c)^2
Continuous Uniform
Distribution
Suppose X is a random variable that has a uniform
distribution with c = 200 and d = 250.

What is f(x)?
f(x) = 1/d-c
= 1/250-200

f(x) = 1/50 for 200≤x≤250

= 0 otherwise
Continuous Uniform
Distribution
What is P(X>230)?
P(x>230) = (250-230)*1/50
= 0.4
Continuous Uniform
Distribution
What is the 20th percentile of this distribution?
(a-200)*1/50 = 0.2
= 210
