A study to assess the effectiveness of planned

teaching programme on knowledge regarding


reproductive health among adolescent girls in
selected middle school Aizawl , Mizoram.

INTRODUCTION

Onset of adolescence brings not only changes to body


but also new vulnerabilities to human rights abuses, in
sexuality, marriage and childbearing.

Critical importance of reproductive health started to


receive increasing recognition

Actual practices are still clouded by taboos and socio-


cultural restrictions resulting in adolescent girls
remaining ignorant
SIGNIFICANCE
• 25.8% out of 2.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS
in India are adolescents.

• Mizoram is one of the leading states in HIV prevalence rate (0.81%)


• 67.6% of 18,007 through sexual transmission.

• Teenage pregnancy is high (7.8%) in India.

• Majority (83%) of girls receive information about menstruation from


friends.
HYPOTHESES

H0: There is no increase in knowledge regarding


menstrual hygiene and sexual education after health
teaching among adolescent girls in PC Girls’ School.

H1: There is increased knowledge regarding menstrual


hygiene and sexual education after health teaching
among adolescent girls in PC Girls’ School.
METHODOLOGY
• Pre-experimental: One group pre-test post-test design
• Sample: 20 adolescent girls from PC.Girls’ School (Purposive
sampling)

• Pre-test using semi-structured questionnaire consisting


- Demographic data
- Knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene
- Knowledge regarding sexual education
• Followed by 45 minutes of planned-teaching programme.
• Post-test was conducted after one week using the same
questionnaire.

DISCUSSION

The results indicated significant positive response to the


planned teaching among adolescent girls.

More emphasis on nursing education and research


regarding reproductive health

Collaboration with higher administration is required


Adolescent health is a smart investment;
not only will it improve health and survival
in the short term, it will bring benefits for
future generations.
