STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

“A Study To Assess The Effectiveness Of Structured Teaching

Program (STP) On Knowledge And Attitude Regarding
Importance Of Well Balanced Diet Among School Age
Children In Selected School, Sri Ganganagar”
OBJECTIVES
 To assess the level of knowledge of school children regarding
well balanced diet.
 To assess the attitude regarding eating pattern among the
school age children.
 To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program
on importance of well-balanced diet for school age children.
 To find out the association between the post-test knowledge
and attitude score with selected demographic variables.
LIMITATION
 The study did not use a control group and there was a threat
to internal validity due to history as the investigator had no
control over events that occurred between pre test and post
test. Hence the research of the study cannot be generalized.
 The study was limited to only 4 weeks.
 The study was conducted on a small group of 80; hence
generalization must be done with caution.
 The study was limited to 6th standard students attending
classes regularly in selected Schools at Sri ganganagar
DELIMITATIONS

• Regular school aged students.

• Children studying 7th standard.

• Data collection period is 4 weeks.”

HYPOTHESIS
All hypotheses will be tested at, 0.05 level of significance.
 “H1- Mean post-test knowledge score of children who
received structured teaching program regarding importance
of Well Balanced Diet will be significantly higher than the
mean pre-test knowledge score.
 H2- Mean post-test attitude score of children who received
structured teaching program regarding importance of Well
Balanced Diet will be significantly higher than the mean pre-
test attitude score.”
CONT………
 H3

“(a). There will be a significant association between post-test

knowledge score and selected demographic variables among
school age children who received structured teaching
program regarding importance of Well Balanced Diet.
(b). There will be a significant association between post-test
attitude score and selected demographic variables among
school age children who received structured teaching
program regarding importance of Well Balanced Diet.
CONCEPTUAL FRAME WORK
The conceptual frame work of the present study is based on
Daniel Shuffle Beam’s Program Evaluation Model (CIPP).
The conceptual frame work presented in the figure shows
context evaluation, input evaluation, process evaluation and
product evaluation.
REVIEW OF LITTERATURE

This study content 30 Review of literature related

to Well Balanced Diet.
RESEARCH APPROACH
“The selection of research approach is a basic procedure
for conducting research enquiry. A research approach helps
the researcher to determine what data to collect and how to
analyze it. It also suggests possible conclusions to be drawn
from the data.”
“Research approach adopted for the present study was
evaluative approach, as the study was aimed at evaluating
the effectiveness of the structured teaching programme on
knowledge and attitude regarding the importance of Well
Balanced Diet among school age children.
CONT………

An evaluative research is commonly conducted to rate the

extent to which a program has attained its goals.
RESEARCH DESIGN
“Research design provides the backbone structure of the study.
It determines how the study will be organized when the data
will be collected and when the interactions will be
implemented.”

O1 O2___x_ O3O4

“The research design selected for the study was one group
pretest post test design which belongs to pre experimental
design. The pre experimental design is a design in which the
pretest and post test observations are made on deferent days
with only one selected group without a control group.
SETTING OF THE STUDY
The study was conducted in Selected Sen. Sec. School at Sri
Ganganagar Criteria for selecting these setting were
geographical proximity, feasibility of conducting the study,
availability of samples, and familiarity of the investigator
with the setting. The school is located at Sri Ganganagar.
There were 26 classrooms and 80 teachers.
VARIABLE UNDER STUDY
“The concepts that can take different quantitative values are
called variables. The variables for the present study were,
Dependant variable: Knowledge and attitude of school age
children regarding importance of Well Balanced Diet.

Independent variable: Structured Teaching Program(STP).”

“Extraneous variables: Age, Gender, Religion, Area of
Residence, Food Habits, Types of Family, Education of
Father, Education of Mother, Occupation of Father,
Occupation of Mother, Exposure to Previous Knowledge, If
Yes Source of Information.”
POPULATION

Population represents the entire group under study. The

target population of the study was the higher secondery
children age between 11-13 years, attending classes regularly
in Govt. Sen. Sec. School in Sri Ganganagar.
SAMPLE

Sample is the sub set of the population under study. The

sample for the study, consist of children in the age between
11- 13 years and going to school regularly.
SAMPLE SIZE

The sample size for the study was 80 children who met the
inclusion criteria.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

Sampling technique employed in this study was Non

probability purposive. Sampling based on inclusion and
exclusion criteria.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TOOL
The tool consists of two sections:
Section -A: Consisted of 12 items related to demographic data
such as Age, Gender, Religion, Area of Residence, Food
Habits, Types of Family, Education of Father, Education of
Mother, Occupation of Father, Occupation of Mother,
Exposure to Previous Knowledge, If Yes Source of
Information.
Section -B
Tool-I: Consisted of 30 multiple choice items to assess the
nutrition knowledge, divided in to four topics. Via:
 General concept of well balance diet.
 Body building foods
 Energy yielding foods
 Protective foods”

CONT………
Each correct answer assigned score ‘one’ and ‘zero’ for the
wrong. The total score of section B is 30.
Based on the above scoring the level of knowledge was assessed
as,
 Inadequate - <50%
 Moderate – 50 –75%
 Adequate - >75%score
Tool - II: Consisted of 20 Positive and Negative Attitudnal
Statements to assess the attitude. “One” mark was allotted for
correct statement. Thus the maximum obtainable score was 20
marks.
CONT…..
Based on the above scoring the nutritional attitudes was
assessed as,
Poor <50%
Fair 51 –75%
Good >75% score
PILOT STUDY

Pilot study was conducted in Selected Sen. Sec. School at Sri

Ganganagar from 29-05-2021 to 06-06-2021, find out the
feasibility of tool and study. The investigator utilizes
pourposive sampling technique to select eight children who
meet the inclusion criteria.
