Descriptive statistics consists of the collection,
organization, summarization, and presentation of
data. e.g. census
Inferential statistics consists of generalizing from
samples to populations, hypothesis testing,
determining relationships among variables, and
making predictions.

The set of all measurements of interest to the
investigator.
Sample
Any subset of all measurements selected from the
population.
